Licence and refunds
Effective October 8, 2026. Kodigo.
Template text. Have it reviewed for your business and location before you publish.
This page explains the licence you get when you buy a website or membership from Kodigo, and how refunds and cancellations work. It is part of our terms of service.
In short
- One-time projects: once paid in full, you can use your site for your business for as long as you like, edit it, host it anywhere and hire anyone to work on it.
- Memberships: the site is licensed to you while the membership is active. When it ends, the site goes offline, unless you buy it outright. Your content and domain are always yours.
- You cannot resell it or reuse it for another business without a new licence. Kodigo keeps the underlying templates.
- Before work starts you get a full refund; after that you pay for work done. Memberships can be cancelled before the next billing date; once we have started building, the first payment is not refundable.
1.Your licence
When a project is paid in full, or while a membership is active, you receive a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to use the delivered website for the business named in the order, including its design, code and components, for as long as you like (one-time projects) or for as long as the membership is active.
With a one-time project you may edit it, host it anywhere, and hire anyone to work on it. With a membership, Kodigo hosts and maintains the site and makes changes for you; the code is handed over only if you buy the site outright.
In either case you may not resell it, offer it as a template, or use it for a different business without a new licence.
2.What stays with Kodigo
Kodigo keeps ownership of the underlying template, components, design system and tooling, so we can keep improving them for every client. Your logo, copy, photos and data stay yours. Open-source libraries in the site keep their own licences (MIT, OFL and Apache 2.0), which allow commercial use.
3.Placeholder content
Demo text, people, reviews and prices shown in a template are placeholders and are replaced with your real content before launch. Demo photos are licensed for the demo; your site uses photos you own or that we license for you.
4.Refunds for one-time projects
- Before work starts: full refund of any deposit.
- After work starts: you pay for the work completed so far; the rest of any prepayment is refunded.
- After handover: final payments are not refundable, but defects reported within 30 days are fixed at no charge.
5.Memberships and cancellation
- Cancel any time before your next billing date; the membership ends when the paid period ends. Unused time in a period is not refunded.
- If you cancel before we start building your site, we refund your first payment in full. Once we have started building, the first payment is not refundable, because the build is included in the membership rather than charged as a setup fee.
- When a membership ends, the licence to the site ends and we take it offline. If you would rather keep the site, you can buy it outright at a one-time price we quote, and we hand it over to accounts you control.
- Either way, we send you an export of your own content (text, photos, logo and the form submissions we hold) and help point your domain wherever you ask. If your domain is registered in your name, as we recommend, it never depends on us.
